My Approach

What is rooted is easy to nourish  -Lao Tzu

Similar to the metaphor of the golden hour, I find inspiration for my counseling approach in nature. Just like a tree with a deep, sturdy root system, when we are more connected, grounded, or rooted – with ourselves, our community, our environment – we often find self-care and nourishment to be much easier. There are many forces in our society that make all these forms of connection difficult. My goal is to help clients find accessible pathways within their power to foster a greater sense of connection. This connection may be with their body, their values, their community, their passions, or simply, the nature in their backyard or local park.

I practice from an anti-diet, Health At Every Size® (HAES) perspective, and emphasize principles of Intuitive Eating, self-compassion, and somatics in my work. I am increasingly aware of and interested in the nervous system's role in positive, sustainable behavior change. Better understanding our own unique body-mind dynamics allows us to move towards a greater sense of connection with ourselves and our surroundings. Improving our ability to connect with and regulate our bodies can help reduce many eating/feeding obstacles. Thus, I am a major proponent of the healing capacity of art and other practices that engage and soothe the senses.

Areas of Focus

I see clients with:

  • Disordered eating

  • Body image struggles

  • Weight concerns

  • A history of chronic dieting

  • ADHD, neurodivergence

  • Eating disorders*, including Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) and Binge Eating Disorder (BED)

I personally relate to being a highly sensitive, "feeling" type, and have been diagnosed with ADHD. I enjoy working with clients who share such temperaments.

Other interest areas include:

  • Gastrointestinal issues / irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

  • Blood sugar concerns (insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, diabetes)

  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and gynecological health concerns

  • Chronic pain and chronic illness, MCAS/POTS/EDS, autoimmune conditions

Note: I practice from a weight-inclusive or weight-neutral lens. I do not view weight as an accurate indicator of health, nor as something any individual has much control over. I understand that in our fatphobic society, clients may desire weight loss, but sessions are focused on behavioral changes to support holistic (physical, emotional, social, etc) wellbeing and individual health needs rather than weight loss goals.

*I have training in the Embodied Recovery for Eating Disorders (ERED) model, "a trauma-informed, relationally oriented, and neurobiologically supported approach to the treatment of eating disorders."

  • Would like to improve your relationship with food

  • Would like to improve your relationship with / connection to your body

  • Want to learn to eat more intuitively, or in other words, would like to stop relying on external cues to guide your eating, and instead learn how to listen to internal cues

  • Would like to find more joy/pleasure and less guilt/shame with eating

  • Want to work on overcoming disordered eating habits from an anti-diet, weight-neutral, behaviorally-focused lens

  • Would like education and clarification about nutrition recommendations from other healthcare providers or the media

  • *Have an eating disorder, but are medically stable, motivated, and willing to recover, and already have or are working to find a team, including a therapist, a doctor, and any other practitioners that may be recommended

  • Sense that anxiety and overwhelm are barriers in being able to nourish yourself appropriately

  • Would like support with a functional gut disorder (ie: IBS), blood sugar concerns, a chronic health condition, or a gynecological health issue from an anti-diet, weight-neutral lens
